A fine specimen of a Bay-backed Shrike. Seen at Rehekuri. The broad black forehead, grey crown and nape, and white patch at base of primaries (partly hidden by the plant) are clear identifiers.
This polka dotted little fellow looked just right, flitting among the wildflowers blooming at Rehekuri Wildlife Sanctuary. The first thing that strikes you is the design of a human like 'face'.
