A small
fort on the top of a hill, it is accessed from the small mountain village of Sindi, near Khed on the route from to
Konkan.
The best part of this trek is experiencing a stay at Sindi. On the edge
of Koyna forest, it consists of barely four or five houses with the typical
thatched roof and shady courtyard. The only sound one can hear at night is the
steady calling of the nightjars. Morning brings a cold mist and the orchestra
of birdcalls. As the day moves on, the sun raises a shimmering haze off the red
soil typically found in this region. The fresh unpolluted air and the silence
bring its own rewards.
